Signing In with Microsoft Login (Single Sign-On)

This article explains how Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO) works in MCO eComms and what to expect during the sign-in process.

What Is Microsoft SSO?

Single Sign-On (SSO) allows users to access MCO eComms using their existing company Microsoft account. There is no need for a separate eComms password.

When SSO is enabled, eComms trusts Microsoft to verify a user's identity. Once Microsoft confirms the login, eComms grants access automatically.

Prerequisites

Before signing in with Microsoft SSO, confirm the following:

  • The organisation has SSO enabled in MCO eComms (the Microsoft sign-in button must be visible on the login page).

  • An eComms account exists for the user. SSO does not create accounts automatically.

  • The user has an active company Microsoft account.

How Sign-In Works

  1. Navigate to the MCO eComms login page.

  2. Click Sign in with Microsoft.

  3. Enter company Microsoft credentials on the Microsoft login screen. (MCO eComms does not handle this step — it is managed entirely by Microsoft.)

  4. Complete any multi-factor authentication (MFA) prompts, if required by the organisation.

  5. Microsoft sends a confirmation of the user's identity back to eComms.

  6. eComms checks that an account exists for the verified email address.

  7. Access is granted and the eComms dashboard loads.

The session remains active for up to 24 hours. After that, users are returned to the login page to sign in again.

Troubleshooting

The Microsoft sign-in button is not visible SSO has not been enabled for the organisation. Contact the eComms system administrator or account manager to enable it.

Sign-in fails with an "account not found" message An eComms account does not exist for that email address. An administrator must create the account before SSO can be used.

The user cannot sign in and no error message appears Check whether the user's Microsoft account is active. If IT has disabled the Microsoft account, eComms access is also blocked automatically.

Password login no longer works Some organisations disable password-based login when SSO is enabled. Users in those organisations must sign in with Microsoft only. Confirm the organisation's login settings with the eComms administrator.

The session keeps expiring Sessions expire after 24 hours by default. This is expected behaviour. Sign in again to start a new session.

FAQ

Does MCO eComms store Microsoft passwords? No. Passwords are handled entirely by Microsoft. MCO eComms never sees or stores them.

What happens when an employee leaves the company? Disabling the employee's Microsoft account immediately blocks SSO access to eComms. However, the eComms account itself must be removed separately by an administrator as part of the offboarding process.

Can users switch between Microsoft SSO and password login? This depends on the organisation's settings. Some organisations allow both; others use SSO only. Check with the eComms administrator.

Does SSO work with personal Microsoft accounts? No. SSO in MCO eComms is configured for corporate Microsoft accounts only.

What happens if Microsoft has an outage? If Microsoft's login service is unavailable, SSO sign-in will not work until the outage is resolved. If the organisation has password login enabled, that can be used as an alternative.

Summary

  • Microsoft SSO lets users access MCO eComms with their company Microsoft credentials.

  • eComms does not handle or store Microsoft passwords — Microsoft manages authentication.

  • An eComms account must already exist before SSO can grant access.

  • Sessions last up to 24 hours.

  • When a Microsoft account is disabled, eComms SSO access is blocked automatically — but the eComms account must still be removed manually.
