Slack capture brings supported Slack communications into MCO eComms so they can be retained, monitored, and reviewed according to your organization’s electronic communications policy.
Overview
Slack is a business messaging platform used for direct messages, group conversations, channels, file sharing, and team collaboration. Slack communications can include business records that compliance teams need to preserve and supervise.
MCO eComms currently supports Slack data provided through Slack export files. Your organization exports Slack data from the Slack admin tools and provides the export file to MCO eComms for archival and review.
MCO eComms plans to support Slack archiving through the official Slack API in a future release. API-based archiving will provide a direct capture method for supported Slack communications once available.
Supported capture methods
Method | Status | Description |
Slack export files | Currently supported | Your organization exports Slack data and provides the export file to MCO eComms for archival and review. |
Slack API archiving | Planned | MCO eComms will support archiving through the official Slack API in a future release. |
How it works
Step | Description |
Confirm capture method | Your organization confirms whether Slack communications will be provided through Slack export files or, when available, Slack API-based archiving. |
Export Slack data | For the current supported method, a Slack Workspace Owner exports the required Slack data from the Slack admin tools. |
Provide the export to MCO eComms | Your organization adds the original Slack export file to the established eComms Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) location. |
Import communications | MCO eComms receives the exported Slack data and processes it for archival and review. |
Archive messages | Supported Slack communications are added to the MCO eComms archive. |
Apply policies | Archived Slack communications can be monitored and reviewed according to your configured policies and license limitations. |
Review communications | Compliance users can search, monitor, and review captured Slack communications in MCO eComms. |
Message availability
Slack communications may not appear in the archive immediately after an export file is provided. Availability depends on the export file, processing schedule, and source configuration.
Keep the Slack export file unchanged before upload so the archive reflects the data produced by Slack.
