NOTE: This article is intended for the administrator designated to set up and manage your MCO eComms account. If you are not sure who that is at your firm, contact your MCO implementation representative.
Overview
Setting up MCO eComms involves five stages. Each stage links to detailed how-to articles where you will complete the actual configuration.
Stage | What you do |
Accept your invitation and access the platform for the first time
Connect your communication sources so messages can be captured
Add employees to the platform and link each user to their communication source account(s)
Set how long communications are retained
Define the rules that score and surface messages for review
For initial setup, MCO recommends completing Stage 2 before Stage 3. You can only map a user to a communication source if that integration is already configured, so setting up your integrations first means you can complete user profiles in a single pass. That said, adding integrations later is a normal operational pattern — when you do, you can update user mappings at that time.
Stage 1 — Log in to your account
When MCO provisions your account, an invitation email is sent to your administrator email address.
NOTE: Onboarding emails are currently sent from [email protected].
The email contains a link to the MCO eComms platform. Follow instructions to initially setup your password.
If you have not received your invitation email, check your spam folder or contact support. If you are unable to complete setup within 24 hours the signup access will be revoked (e.g. "Token expired") and you will need to request a new invite.
Stage 2 — Configure integrations
Integrations connect your firm's communication sources to the MCO eComms platform so that messages can be captured, archived, and reviewed. MCO recommends configuring your integrations before adding users so that communication account mappings can be completed in a single pass during user setup.
You can add integrations at any time after initial setup. When you add a new integration, you will need to return to each relevant user profile to add the corresponding communication account mapping. See Stage 3 for details on updating user mappings individually or in bulk.
Navigate to Settings > Integrations to view and manage your integrations.
NOTE: Some integrations are configured by MCO during implementation. Others are configured by your administrator. Your MCO implementation representative will confirm which integrations are in scope for your deployment and which require your involvement.
Email is the most common starting point. Connecting email to MCO eComms requires configuring a journaling rule with your email provider to forward messages to the platform. The configuration inside MCO eComms is the same regardless of provider; the journaling rule setup varies.
MCO currently provides journaling setup instructions for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
Additional communication sources
MCO eComms supports integrations with a range of communication sources including messaging platforms, financial communications tools, and others. Initial integration setup varies based on source. Search for the source name for instructions specific to each source.
Stage 3 — Add users and map communication accounts
Once your integrations are configured, add your employees to the MCO eComms platform and map each user to their account(s) in the connected communication sources.
Completing both tasks together — adding the user and mapping their communication accounts at the same time — ensures that messages are captured and attributed correctly from the point the user is active on the platform. If you add a new integration after users are already in the system, return to each affected user profile to add the new communication account mapping.
User profiles can be added and updated individually or in bulk via CSV upload. Use CSV upload when adding a large number of users at initial setup, or when updating communication account mappings across multiple users after adding a new integration.
Navigate to Settings > Users to add users and manage communication account mappings.
Stage 4 — Configure your Retention Policy
A Retention Policy defines how long communications are stored on the MCO eComms platform before they are eligible for deletion. Your firm must have at least one Retention Policy in place for messages to be retained in accordance with your regulatory and internal requirements.
WARNING: Messages are not retained beyond the period defined in your active Retention Policy. Configure your Retention Policy before communications begin flowing through the platform.
Navigate to Account Defaults to set up and manage Retention Policies.
Stage 5 — Configure your Communications Risk Policy
Applies to eComms Review and Guide only.
A Communications Risk Policy defines the rules by which messages are scored and surfaced in the review queue. Without a risk policy in place, communications will be archived but will not be evaluated for review.
Navigate to Policies to set up and manage Communications Risk Policies.
NOTE: Your MCO implementation representative can advise on initial policy configuration based on your firm's surveillance requirements. Frequently, the default Policy settings are sufficient to get started.
Verify your setup
After completing all five stages, confirm that the platform is operating as expected.
For eComms Keep:
Messages from connected sources are appearing in Archive.
Messages are attributed to the correct users.
Your Retention Policy is active and applied to incoming messages.
For eComms Review:
Messages are appearing in Inbox and being scored.
Your Communications Risk Policy is active.
Alerts are being generated for messages that match your policy rules.
If messages are not appearing or alerts are not being generated, contact MCO Customer Support or your Implementation contact.
