Overview of Signal Capture

This overview explains how Signal capture works in MCO eComms, including how TeleMessage captures supported Signal communications and how those communications are made available for retention, monitoring, and review.

What is Signal capture?

Signal capture brings supported Signal communications into MCO eComms through TeleMessage so they can be retained, monitored, and reviewed according to your organization’s electronic communications policy.

Overview

Signal is an encrypted messaging application used for text, multimedia, file sharing, and other business communications. These communications can include business records that compliance teams need to preserve and supervise.

MCO eComms supports Signal capture through TeleMessage, a third-party capture provider. TeleMessage captures supported Signal communications from Android and iOS devices and makes them available for import into MCO eComms.

Signal capture can be used on corporate-owned devices and bring your own device (BYOD) environments. Depending on your organization’s configuration, users can separate personal and work-related Signal communications.

Supported Signal content

Signal capture supports the following communication types:

Content type

Description

Message text

Text messages sent or received through Signal.

Multimedia

Supported image, audio, video, or other multimedia content.

Files

Files shared through Signal conversations.

Deleted messages

Messages deleted in Signal after capture is enabled.

How it works

Step

Description

Confirm capture scope

Your organization confirms which Signal users, devices, and communication types need to be captured.

Configure TeleMessage capture

TeleMessage configures the supported Signal capture process for your organization.

Deploy the capture application

Administrators distribute the capture application to users through Apple Business Manager or Google Enterprise Private Store.

Configure user access

Users are configured for Signal capture on corporate-owned or BYOD mobile devices.

Capture communications

TeleMessage captures supported Signal communications from mobile and desktop Signal applications.

Provide data to MCO eComms

TeleMessage makes captured Signal communications available for import into MCO eComms.

Map users

Admin users map Signal identities to MCO eComms user profiles.

Archive messages

Captured Signal communications are added to the MCO eComms archive.

Apply policies

Once messages are mapped, configured retention and detection policies apply based on your organization’s setup and license limitations.

Review communications

Compliance users can search, monitor, and review captured Signal communications in MCO eComms.

User mapping

User mapping allows MCO eComms to associate captured Signal communications with the correct user profiles. Signal users may need to be mapped by the identifier provided through TeleMessage.

If a Signal communication cannot be matched to a user profile, it may appear as unmapped until the required user mapping is completed.

Message availability

Signal communications may not appear in the archive immediately after setup is complete. Availability depends on TeleMessage configuration, application deployment, device configuration, transfer method, and processing schedule.

After communications are imported and mapped, they can be retained and reviewed in MCO eComms according to the policies assigned to the user.
